I was born in Russia. After traveling through Europe, my family settled in London, England. When I was eleven I knew I'd either be a passionate artist, or a passionate writer with a special place in my heart for art. After many career adventures, and running an exciting antique furniture importing business, I decided to combine my love of children, my artistic and teaching talents. I started teaching art classes from my home studio. The business became successful, the extra income was validating, I was grateful for the community's trust in my unique art programs and services. Jolly Good Art Studio was soon offering after-school art classes, custom birthday parties and seasonal camps, all in a safe and fun atmosphere.
But doing what one loves doesn't always come easily. My tenacity has seen me through many wonderful experiences, such as traveling to some of the most wonderful places in the world, and learning about myself, and relationships, both in personal and business life. This same tenacity has helped me through some tough health times, such as breast cancer in my 42nd year. (see my article Suddenly Life's Precious).
But I truly believe its all about attitude. It took years, and a hard knock on my mortality's door, for me to wake up and realize there's still one more dream - in addition to marrying my Mr Right, having my lovely child, and running a successful business - there was still something I've been hankering after: To become a published author.
My writing dream became a reality (see article From Conception to Dream Come True) in September 2005 when I decided to close the doors of my lucrative art teaching business to focus on writing. I was determined to get into the publishing world any which way; by capitalizing on my transferable skills as a creative entrepreneur. I did my research about the available books on the market, and developed the idea for my first non-fiction book: Start and Run An Art Teaching Business. Self-Counsel Press liked the original concept of starting and running an art teaching business, where the new or established entrepreneur, as well as a parent or care-giver could learn the ropes of such a creative and fun enterprise. They can make a difference in their own lives as well as in their children or the community. Whether its teaching art classes, organizing birthday parties or running a seasonal art camp, the book encompasses all aspects of the business, including juggling a busy life with business, and other tricks of the trade.
But as there are other facets to me, too. In addition to trying to prioritize and balance family with business, my other passions in life include travelling, spending time by the sea/lake, and spending time with friends and writing buddies, who understand we - the creative souls - are just a different species.
I run workshops and courses in various colleges in Toronto and the GTA, regarding topics such as Stress Management, Getting Organized, About Writing and How to Start and Run a Creative Business.
This has led me to a new love of Public Speaking and mentoring youth, as well as entrepreneurs. But, one thing I always uphold, and that is always being true to my authentic self, and paying forward.
